Pastor Herbert W. Watson, Jr. has been the presiding Pastor at St. Mark since July 1, 1996. He brings his passion for all God’s people as he serves both the church and local community.
Pastor Watson was born and raised in East Baltimore. After graduating from Baltimore's Polytechnic Institute, Pastor Watson initially had his sights on becoming an engineer. After being called to the ministry, he matriculated to Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College), where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Sociology/Criminal Justice. He is also a graduate of Garrett– Evangelical Theological Seminary, a graduate school of theology of the United Methodist Church located in Evanston, IL where he earned his Master of Divinity degree.
Pastor Watson has 43 years of ministerial experience and has served several other congregations prior to being appointed to St. Mark. He has served in various senior leadership roles in the Baltimore Washington Conference of the United Methodist Church. He proudly notes that he is St. Mark’s longest-serving pastor. He serves as chaplain with the Baltimore County police, and Baltimore Washington Hospital Center.
He is well known to friends and family as a technology geek. He is the proud husband of Rochelle Watson, the First Lady of St. Mark, parent to two children, and grandparent of one grandchild.
